Caprese Sandwich

This Caprese sandwich takes a classic and gives it a bold, fiery twist. Creamy mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, fresh basil, and a sprinkle of oregano come together with a drizzle of Fuoco crispy chilli oil for added depth and heat. Perfect for a summer lunch or an anytime snack when fresh ingredients are at their best.

Ingredients:

  • Sliced bread (focaccia is ideal, but any good loaf works)

  • 1 ball fresh mozzarella, sliced

  • Tomatoes, sliced

  • Fresh basil leaves

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling

  • Flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

  • Small branch of oregano, for sprinkling (optional)

  • Fuoco crispy chilli oil (for that fiery finish)

Method:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Slice the bread, mozzarella, and tomatoes. Wash the arugula and basil leaves.

  2. Assemble the Sandwich: Lay down a generous layer of arugula on one slice of bread. Top with slices of mozzarella and tomatoes. If using, add roasted tomatoes and a few pickled onions for extra tang and depth.

  3. Add the Herbs & Oil: Place fresh basil leaves over the filling and drizzle generously with olive oil. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, and a touch of oregano if desired.

  4. Finish with Fuoco: Drizzle Fuoco crispy chilli oil over the filling for a fiery twist that complements the creamy cheese and sweet tomatoes.

  5. Complete the Sandwich: Top with the remaining slice of bread, press gently, and cut in half if desired.
